The New Basic: Hidden Wedge Sneakers

Hidden wedge sneakers have been around for a few seasons now originally thanks to the genius of Isabel Marant. Lately though, this new trend is catching on in a big way and pretty much every designer/brand/store is coming out with their own take on the wedge sneaker. Now, when you’re 5’3″ like me, these sneakers are appealing for more than just their fun color and pattern options. It’s a casual, sporty chic look perfect for everyday wear but you don’t have to sacrifice giving your legs just a bit of a lift. My legs are big fans!

Here are my picks (in a variety of price ranges) for some of the best wedge sneakers out there right now.

For even more great and affordable wedge sneaker options, also check out the shoes and accessories website, Call It Spring.

Animals and Ankle Boots

Yesterday I designed my entire outfit around my awesome new animal print Dolce Vita ankle boots.  I figured since I’m such a big fan of animal prints on other parts of my clothing, why not my feet too? These came from Nordstrom and were purchased during the annual holiday my mother and I celebrate called the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale. Scored them for a fantastic price and they are definitely going to get alot of wear this winter. Looks like the sale must have cleared them out at Nordstrom, but you can still buy a pair over at Urban Outfitters. Or, Madewell also has some great options I’ve got my eye on…because clearly one pair of animal print ankle boots is never enough!

Splurge/Steal (ish)

{Proenza Schouler Colorblock Cap Toe Pumps - $595}

I am absolutely loving these Proenza Schouler Colorblock Cap Top Pumps. They’re an odd choice for me because I’m typically not a pointy toe, pump loving kind of gal. I typically go for wedges, rounded toes, boots, etc. Buuuttt perhaps times are changing. Or, perhaps, these Proenza shoes are JUST THAT GOOD.  While I weirdly don’t think $595 is terribly price tag heavy for these beauties, here’s a great option from Elizabeth and James which are a touch lower in price (thus the -ish in the title) but still get you that cap toe colorblock look.

{Elizabeth and James Sash Pump - $325}

Perhaps one day we’ll all live in a world where we just can buy all 3….

oh, dreams.

Took this photo of the Converse store window in Santa Monica on the 3rd Street Promenade last Saturday. I have a long, undying love with Converse and I’m thinking I should invest in some white high tops this summer. Partially because of this picture and partially because I saw a girl in them on my way to the gym the other day and she looked super cute. At which point I wondered why I don’t own a pair. However, I do currently own a pair of black high tops, a pair of black low tops, a light blue pair with dark blue ink writing on them (in the fabric, I didn’t write on them), and a white low top pair. It’s not enough, I say!

Shoes for Spring

Excited to break out these spring/summer shoes in the next few weeks. Warm weather means sandal time and sandal time means…it’s pedicure season! (eek!) My well worn flower Prada sandals are troopers and still hanging in there. I really don’t get enough wear out of these black Trouve sandals so I’m going to attempt to fix that this spring/summer. And these BCBG Max Azria sandals are some of my favorite favorite shoes. I lusted after them for a while (they may or may not have been in a collage hung up in my closet) and was so happy when I finally bought them. They remind of a great pair of Dries Van Noten sandals I was also in love with. Time to stock up on cute spring polish too!
